About My Safe Place

MSP has been serving Lincoln County since February 12, 1980. Our first shelter consisted of a small family rental home  in Lincoln County that also housed the business office. Since then, My Sisters’ Place has moved office and shelter locations several times, eventually moving to our current advocacy office in Newport, building a brand new shelter facility in 2003, and completing a pet kennel adjacent to shelter in 2009 that enables clients with pets to access shelter. Formerly Women’s Crisis Intervention Services, we adopted our previous organization name in 2001: My Sisters’ Place.

Our mission is to comprehensively support those affected by interpersonal violence in Lincoln County by providing shelter, practical assistance, promoting community awareness, and actively working to change community norms and violence.

We believe interpersonal violence takes on many forms: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual assault, financial abuse, stalking and elder abuse. Although interpersonal violence can manifest subtly or overtly, it has one common denominator: a person who feels entitled to assert power and control over another individual. We believe interpersonal violence stems from oppression, which is the deeply rooted social and systematic mistreatment of individuals, based on  presumed or actual belonging to a targeted identity group.

Support Group

We provide shelter, safety planning, support groups, court and agency advocacy, and other services and support to individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence.

MSP also partners with a variety of community organizations in Lincoln County, including other nonprofits, law enforcement, and the criminal justice system, to shift the public conversation from from blaming the victim to taking collective responsibility and action.
